Apprentice School of Shipbuilding
There are a limited number of openings for the remainder of 2009.
We are now accepting applications for 2010.

Apprentices are admitted to the program, usually on a monthly basis, as vacancies occur. Shop training and trade theory classes in the selected trade begin immediately after admission. Other classroom instruction for new apprentices is based on semester programs.

SELECTION

The recruitment, selection, employment, and training of apprentices are based on bona fide occupational requirements and is done without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age or disability. The company takes affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and operates the program as required under Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 30 and the Virginia State plan.

In order to qualify for admission to the Apprentice School, the applicant must:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age. High school seniors may apply before reaching 18 through the early admission program.
  2. Have a high school education with at least 4 units in any combination of the following:
    1. Algebra I
    2. Geometry
    3. Algebra II
    4. Mechanical/Drawing
    5. Vocational/Technical Education or Computer Science
    6. Advanced Mathematics
    7. Chemistry
    8. Physics
    9. Principles of Technology
      (Please Note: Meeting the minimum requirements specified does not ensure selection.)
  3. Be physically able to perform the essential duties of the trade requested or assigned.
  4. Be able to obtain the proper security clearance. Due to the nature of our work, U.S. Citizenship is required. Non U.S. citizens or those with dual citizenship should not apply. Applicants will be subject to a U.S. Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  5. Current employees of Northrop Grumman Corporation must have good attendance and job performance records.
APPLICATIONS

Applicants must submit a completed online Application Questionnaire and pay a non-refundable $25 processing fee (this fee is waived for current Northrop Grumman Corporation employees). A secure form is provided at the end of this application for credit card transactions.

Submitting the online Questionnaire means you have expressed a bona fide interest in applying to The Apprentice School and give your explicit permission to have your application entered in Northrop Grumman Corporation’s applicant tracking system.

Applicants must also request that their high school or equivalent and any post-secondary schools forward official transcripts to:

For New Applicants:
After submitting your Application Questionnaire, prepare to receive a minimum of three emails:

  • You will receive the first email immediately upon submitting your completed Questionnaire. This email will verify that your Questionnaire was received and remind you to have official academic transcripts sent directly to The Apprentice School.
  • A second email will arrive when your information has been entered into our applicant tracking system. That email is also notification that you have officially applied to The Apprentice School.
  • The third email is a request from Northrop Grumman Corporation to voluntarily complete an EEO form.

For Northrop Grumman Corporation Careers Website Applicants:

  • You will receive an email immediately upon submitting this completed Questionnaire. This email will verify that your Questionnaire was received and remind you to have official academic transcripts sent directly to The Apprentice School.
  • Subsequent correspondence will provide you with an update on your application status.
