Welding Equipment RepairerAs Technology changes, new jobs develop. Such is the case with welding technology where new complex systems of welding have created a demand for trained mechanics to repair sophisticated welding equipment. As welding equipment repairers, new apprentices learn the basics of welding in the company's Welding School and on production welding assignments. Then they rotate through different areas of the shipyard where they learn to test, troubleshoot, repair and maintain all types of welding equipment. Work varies from repairing welding cable to working on automatic and numerical-controlled burning equipment. The shipyard uses these systems in shop and ship areas, and the apprentice tours both areas. Instruction includes a tour through Welding Engineering and electronics and mechanical work. Once apprentices complete this program, they are able to repair and maintain any welding and burning system used by the company. |
